Catering Circle Star Show Awards.

August 04, 2023

The Catering Circle is a collective platform of restaurant professionals devoted to the sole purpose of creating the ideal business environment for our catering industry. The mission of the organisation is to address current issues in the catering sector, to encourage growth and development, and to transform business goals into reality.

The Restaurant Star Show is an opportunity for radical and innovative restaurateurs to showcase culinary ingenuity and gastronomic artistry. On behalf of the Viceroy of Windsor I had the opportunity to take part in Season 7 along with hundreds of other restaurants, making it into the finals.

The Show focused on bringing innovativeness to a struggling sector. Curry Houses are closing at an alarming rate, with the rising cost of ingredients, issues with staff retention and the cost of living crisis. The dishes we showcased were part of a strategy to re-invigorate the beauty and delight of South Asian Food. Our dish, Kasundi Scallops, bridges East and West Indian spices and flavours, through an aromatic explosion of colour and fragrance. We showcased the dish at a Charity Event at the Viceroy in 2022, with the proceeds going to Windsor Foodshare and Thames Hospice. You can see how we did below.

Much of the show was dedicated to specific challenges the restaurant industry faced, and how us as young restaurateurs were tackling these issues. Live panel discussions and debates took place  where we went through these issues. Here are some of the solutions provided by the Catering Circle:

The award ceremony took the form of a Business Conference at the Meridian Grand in the Summer of 2023 where I was awarded my finalist trophy in addition to my two colleagues. The night showcased success stories from across the United Kingdom and gave hope and a sense of community to an industry facing many tough issues in the twenty-first century.
